Phaseolus vulgaris

A most revered dry bean variety bred and adapted by the Passamaquoddy people of Northeastern US. Rich, meaty and nutty beans that hold excellent form when cooked. A deep earthiness that fills the stomach and the spirit. Jacob’s Cattle Bean mature very, very quickly especially in the cool summers of its homeland. We highly recommend this bean for our fellow short season homesteaders and for those bean hole suppers! A precious jewel!

Growing Instructions:

Direct sow 4-6” apart in rows 18” apart.

Fertilization not usually required.

Place a bit of balanced compost and sprinkling of woodash in each hole at time of planting.

Harvest Instructions:

Let beans pods dry down on plants and cut down to thresh OR in wetter years, allow plants to turn yellow and beans to attain their mature coloring in the field. Then cut the plants to hang and dry down in a covered, warm and well ventilated space.
