Devi

Devi is the embodiment of the creative, dynamic, ecstatic, bountiful and nurturing forces coursing through each of us and all of life. In the Yogic tradition it is the manifestation of feminine energy which knows no boundaries, no human limitations or identifications and is available for all to freely access and experience.

Devi comes in many forms and Bhoomi Devi can be understood as a form of Mother Earth, or Earth Goddess.

This sound offering is a work of Tamil poet Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathiyar, musically adapted by Sounds of Isha. It likens the whirl and movement of all life to the exuberant dance of Shakti, the creative/life-giving cosmic energy. Devi is the personification of this energy.

“The lap where life flourishes is Shakti
The strength which guards the earth is Shakti
The flame which stops one from falling is Shakti (inner strength)
The tapas* that eliminates confusion is Shakti”

*literally means heat in Sanskrit, understood as the purification process of devotion/practice/dedication
