Pennisetum glaucum

Dagbon Pearl Millet is an indigenious super grain of Northern Ghana. Stunning 9 ft tall grasses with massive terminal spikes that develop large blue-gray hulless grains. The hulless nature of the grain make it easy to process as a pantry staple. It has proven to be very disease resistant, extraordinarily drought tolerant and grows well in acidic soils. Dagbon Millet thrived in our unirrigated ‘dry-farmed’ fields during a devastating season long drought. Impressively lodge resistant given its enormous stature. We appreciate its manifold offerings: a beauty to behold as an ornamental and an extraordinarily rugged food source for the homestead when water is scarce. Bear in mind the hulless grains are very attractive to birds! Keep a close eye and begin selective harvesting as grains ripen and bird activity increases. Creative protective measures are encouraged!
